DEC Announces Section of Devil's Path/Long Path Trail is Reopened + Rerouted

November 7, 2019

From the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC):

On Thursday, Nov. 7, the DEC announced that the section of the Devil's Path trail, beginning from the Pecoy Notch trail to the Twin Mountain summit is reopened to the public. After recent vandalism on Friday, Oct. 4, this section of trail was temporarily closed.

The reopening of this section of trail features a reroute that provides a safer route around the compromised rock face due to the recent vandalism of the steel rungs that were installed in August 2019. The vandalism created a safety hazard for visitors utilizing this section of trail. The DEC believes that the public will find that the reroute was built in the character of what one expects to find when hiking the Devil's Path.
