Title

Protect Bats: Please Stay Out of Caves

Body

Hikers are urged to stay out of caves and mines in order to avoid spreading a fungal disease that is decimating bat populations.

The staff at New Jersey Endangered Species request that hikers DO NOT enter ANY mines or caves. The caves in Hibernia are closed as is Roomy Mine, both until further notice.

The US Forest Service has closed ALL of its caves and mines on its land in New Jersey to the public. White-nose syndrome fungus is killing bats in eastern and southern regions of the country.
