Invasive species cause a multitude of problems in our region's natural areas including making these habitats less suitable for native wildlife. This year, our Invasives Strike Force volunteers will be focused solely on emerging invasive species, or those that are not yet common/have only recently been introduced to our region. The earlier these emerging species are detected, the better chance we have of preventing them from becoming widespread. This required course helps Invasives Strike Force volunteers gain the skills necessary to identify four invasive species (beech leaf disease, spotted lanternfly, tree of heaven and hemlock woolly adelgid) as well as one emerging invasive and a native plant that rotates depending on the month you begin surveying. As trained volunteers, you will then conduct monitoring along assigned trail sections that are convenient to your own home and according to a schedule that works for you! Part 2 of this webinar series will focus on survey protocols and reporting procedures (see events calendar for registration). We will also be offering optional guided nature walks throughout the summer to build confidence and learn together (see events calendars for those dates)! This is an in-person event. Note there is also a webinar version of this workshop taking place on May 24 on Zoom from 7-8:15 if you would rather take a digital training.

Registration is required. You will receive an email from our Associate Director of Land Stewardship, Brent Boscarino, about 5 days prior to the workshop with more information. See you then!
